Today, I was told I will be having twins; this came as a shock since there are no twins in my family. When I asked my mom about it, she said that she wasn't surprised and not to worry about it because she had "absorbed her twin" and that the problem would "take care of itself." FML

It sucks that she thinks it's a problem, but there's actually a syndrome called vanishing twin syndrome (VTS) and the second baby is literally absorbed. Pretty creepy lol i hear almost 80% of pregnancies start as twins but this happens o.o good luck on your two gifts!

Identical twins are completely random and are not genetically predisposed. Non identical are genetic due to the mother genetically producing more than one egg during ovulation. Congrats on the pregnancy though! I'd love to have twins!

Identical twins can happen even if no one else in either side of yours or your man's husband have any. Though with a lot of twins in their family usually end up with feternal. So it's nothing to be shocked about.

Even if there were twins on the fathers side, it won't help the chances of having twins considering identical is luck of the draw and fraternal happens when the MOTHER drops two eggs. It has nothing to do with the father at all besides him supplying the sperm
