Great expectations

Today, I came home expecting a surprise party. It was my birthday and I had overheard my friends planning it all week. Nobody was there. It turns out the party they were planning was for my friend's dog's birthday. FML

how old are you, 5?? if these are adults that throw surprise parties for dogs, they must be regulars on dr. phil or be a few french fries short of a happy meal... wtf? you need new friends, btw.

It's not necessarily fake, so STFU. As #10 said, some people treat their pets like humans, sometimes WAAAY too much like humans. These people usually don't have many human friends, though. FYL for all your friends being losers. Also FYL because you, as part of the group, are probably a loser as well.

This isn't necessarily implausible. Some people do have really awesome dogs that all their friends and family adore. And who needs a particularly good excuse to have a party anyway?

That... is ******* ridiculous. I would disown them all as friends, not because they aren't celebrating your birthday, but because they put that much planning into a BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR A DOG.
