Hog on hog action

Today, I pulled someone over for speeding. He was only 10 over the speed limit so I gave him an $84 fine. It turns out he is a workplace Occupational Health and Safety officer and because I wasn't wearing my high visibilty vest while standing on the side of the road he gave me a $250 fine. FML

Yeah, God forbid he actually did his job. It's scum like you who think it's okay to break the law if it's "only a little."

Yeah I know. Totally. F*ck him for pulling someone over that was going over the speed limit. I hate when cops pull people over for breaking the law. What a c*ckhole of a policeman.

I was 'bout to hit "I agree" cuz this place is full of cop-haters, but it does piss me off when someone gets pulled over for going only 10 over. At least here in NY 10 mph over the limit is considered a "grace period" for drivers and any cop that does fine you for that (which rarely happens) is considered a real bastard. So YDI for karma comin' back to bite you right in your face (or for that matter, your wallet).

i love living in NY and actually it was 10 km/h so only like 6 mph can you imagine being such a tightass?

It depends where in NY you go over the limit. I generally go 9 mph over the limit, just so the cop will feel like a real asshole because I wasn't even going 10 mph over! If you're on Long Island, you drive faster than the ambulances. Going 15-20 over is pretty common.

Whether or not 10 over the speed limit is 'acceptable' or not is completely not the issue. If you're going the speed limit or under, it's legal. If you go over the speed limit, it's illegal. That's how it is, by definition. People arguing that 10 over the limit is OK are essentially saying that it's just slightly less illegal than going 20 over the limit. Either way, slightly illegal or very illegal, it's all illegal. It's not hard to stay the speed limit. If you're in a rush while driving, you should've left earlier.

Actually, if you say it's not hard to stay within the speed limit, you must live somewhere that the limits are waaay higher than America. Here the entire speed limit system is one big money-making industry. How else can you explain it that the street on which I live, which extends into NJ a couple of miles down the road has a 30 mph limit, (which is really a ridiculous speed for anyone keeping to the limit), but then switches to 40 mph as soon as you cross over to NJ? Was the road any different or more dangerous in NY? No, it's just that many drivers coming from NJ are still driving 45-50 mph from NJ, and continue, so NY makes money off of these drivers. Which is a lot, believe me.

true though that may be, most of us don't have the power or the resources to either a) make significant changes to the law or b) move to a country that has laws we like better. sometimes 20 over the limit is reasonable. open country roads during full daylight, for example. huge highways with low traffic volume that have, for some reason, a 45 mph limit. and yes, sometimes the limits are what they are because of something we don't know, but frankly, sometimes they're not. i agree that rules should exist, but the purpose behind the rule is more important than the rule itself. if you can drive on a road at a speed without endangering yourself, the road, or others, there's really no reason you shouldn't be allowed to do that speed.

Actually, I live in NJ and MA. Never intentionally go past the speed limit, never have gotten pulled over for anything, always get places on time. I'm sure speed limits are determined by a variety of factors. Average weather conditions, road conditions, residential facts, proximity to areas with lots of children, etc. So just because sometimes a road seems like you can safely go beyond its speed limit, doesn't mean that it's usually a good idea to. But I mean...what do you want? Do you want them to increase the speed limit by 15/20 mph everywhere? I guarantee more accidents would happen.

You really believe that THAT much thought goes into speed limits? You don't have much experience with government, do you...

10KM/h over and you pulled him over. Karma's a bitch, isn't it? YDI.

Lol, well you know they gotta meet that quota eh? but seriously almost $100 ticket for 10km over? that's just stupid. And for those of you that say "Oh well he might have been in a school zone"...just how many school zones do you think there are??? the world's not built up from school zones, the chances that he was in a school zone speeding is slim to none. Then you've got people saying "they're not pigs when you get robbed and have to call them"......Well that'd be them doing the job right for a change. Just because they're needed and helpful sometimes, doesn't mean that they do the job right everywhere.

Cops aren't held to high enough standards. If someone is going to enforce the law, they had better follow it to the letter.

really? so its only their job if they enforce certain laws #85? He was breaking the law and deserved what he got. (this applies to BOTH mentioned tickets.)

quis custodiet ipsos custodes... i generally like and appreciate police but this is just plain funny :)

what does that mean? "who watches the watchers" ?? or something like that?

YDI for almost getting run over. Brightly colored apparel FTW

Damn accidently preddes FYL, its obviously YDI, sorry;]

lmao I wish this would have been on that show, Speeders. this made me laugh. YDI for not wearing a vest. BUT - to the morons who think it's okay to break the law even a little bit - wait until you get in an accident going "only 10" over the speed limit. Guess whose fault it's going to be? It's a written law, right there in front of you or in court. You're not a special snowflake. You're not above the law under any circumstances and the cop has full right to pull you over if he wants to, damnit. So STFU to the idiots who think it's cool to trash the police.

Everyone who is saying “YDI” and “karma’s a bitch” you might as well be saying that cops should not do their job. I drive fast and speed sometimes so I understand how 10 over is a little extreme to pull someone over for, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that it is still illegal. He pulled over someone who was breaking the law which is what he should have done. Just like the cop did his job the OSHA guy did his. Not wearing your vest seems like a pretty small infraction but according to OSHA it is illegal so the cop was given a ticket. This is not karma it is the law.

People on here are so Amerocentric. Most countries use the METRIC system which means the guy, being in Australia, was going 10KM over the speed limit, not 10 MILES. Very significant difference. No sensible police officer will pull you over for 10km over unless you are in a school or construction zone. That is why YDI. 10 miles is reasonable but a bit nit-picky. The Amerocentric comment goes ditto for all those commenters on other FMLs who think that the rest of the world has a 21 year old drinking age. What a backwards country.

Oh dear God, damn those people - those thousands of people on FML from America - who don't always first remember to do the conversion! Oh woe is them, damn them all to hell! Yes, well said, my friend. Well said indeed.

Actually there are fair odds that he meant 10MPH. While the signs may read in kph, and fuel may be sold by the litre, many people in the UK and the Commonwealth still use MPH and MPG in conversation. Remember that it's called the ENGLISH system of measurement. Oh, and watch some top gear...

Even so, the point still stands because it's OVER the speed limit =/

#91, please STFU. Obviously many Americans know that the rest of the world doesn't have a 21 year old drinking age because we're pissed that we have one of the highest drinking ages in the world. I mean, you can walk into a bar at 16 in France and get a drink. For ***** sake, do yourself a favor and shut up.

He meant 10kph. We use kilometres here.
