I think I know exactly what happened. he mixed up the instructions for the oven and the microwave and tried to preheat the microwave.

my sister asked me how to make ramen one time I told her you just microwave it, she asked me "do I put water in it" I told her yes she thought I meant after microving it needless to say that microwave smelled so bad we had to trash it and the noodles were black

Mines blown up 3 microwaves, set another one on fire, tried to softboil eggs, and even tried to make strawberry alfredo by putting in strawberry milk. All that was in his teens and up. I feel your pain, so so much. He's terrible with technology. Gone through over 8 phones, broke an xbox in 2 weeks, rode a bike into the sea with a phone in his pocket and more.
