Kurai88, of course my English teachers and my parents are proud of me, my English is ******* great and I'm not an English native speaker! 'Than' is a conjunction that introduces a clause in parallel construction [I am] and omits 'am', therefore, it's an elliptical clause. When 'than' works as a conjunction, the case of the pronoun after the word 'than' is determined by its role in the second sentence. Of course, in informal speech, 'than me' is more widely used, but that doesn't mean it's correct. I would explain it in simpler words, but frankly, I don't know if it would really be helpful to try and explain this to someone who can't even capitalise at the beginning of sentences. If you think that I'm wrong about this or that I made any mistakes, feel free to correct me, but you should at least bother to explain why I'm wrong. Please, for the love of all that is good, don't try to school someone in grammar if you only have a very basic grasp of it yourself.
@ Sinkhole upon reflection, perhaps "than I" is not incorrect, but neither is "than me", so your original comment is still bullshit. you say that 'than' is a conjunction as if it is a matter of fact, when that isn't actually the case, and there are arguments for it being a conjunction, and there are arguments for it being a preposition. "... Ken Wilson sums it up best in The Columbia Guide to Standard American English (3): Than is both a subordinating conjunction, as in She is wiser than I am, and a preposition, as in She is wiser than me.... Since the following verb am is often dropped or “understood,” we regularly hear than I and than me. Some commentators believe that the conjunction is currently more frequent than the preposition, but both are unquestionably Standard." and on the topic of capital letters, STFU, it's the internet. i use punctuation, paragraphs and full spelling (as opposed to 'u' or 'l8r') and don't feel the need to make your day any easier by copypasting from Word or holding down the shift button. are you gonna cry? do the little letters hurt your eyes? i don't give a shit.
give me a call ill show him what u can do with that
I would marry the op in a heartbeat. Do you know how much fun flexibility allows for??
I'm glad that you at least bothered investigating instead of explaining it by yourself. Try reading my comment again, I said that 'than me' is more widely used, that is why it's standard to use it as a preposition. However, if you had read the whole article from which you took your quote, you would have noticed that it says that in a formal setting, 'than I' is the correct option. I never said that 'than' is always a conjunction, there are of course some instances in which 'than acts as a preposition, but not here. Try filling out the missing words and you'll see how it works: You're more stupid than I [am]. You're more stupid than me [am] -> This doesn't work! The only way in which 'than me' could work it would be if you were saying: You're more stupid than [you are] me. -> Doesn't work here either. What a good way of showing that you don't give a shit, the only way you can "defend" your point of view is by insulting me. I don't really care how you type, I mentioned the capital letters because you said 'since you tried to "correct" someone, i really do insist on laughing at your idiocy till i cry.' So, practise what you preach!
man I would love to f ur brains out like that
