Today, my mum grounded me for going to my boyfriend's house instead of the library. She said my boyfriend's mum phoned up because she could hear us having it off in his room. When I denied it my mum shouted at me for being a liar as well as a slut. I did go to the library. FML

Wanting birth control, I confessed. In turn she grounded me. I'm not allowed to see my boyfriend anymore. FML

Today, my mum came home from a business trip. My four-year-old brother, who I'd been watching, told her I was "sexing" my boyfriend a lot after I put him to bed. After lots of arguing, she banned me from seeing him and took my car away. Only much later did I realize my brother meant "texting". FML

Today, I was grounded for not agreeing with an article on dating my mom found in a very strict magazine. The article told parents to monitor phone calls, make rumors about their children cheating on people, and not allow their children anywhere but home. FML

Today, I was watching a movie that had a mild sex scene in it. My mother walked in just as that scene was starting and she flipped out. I'm now grounded. She's taken my TV and laptop out of my room and refuses to let me see my boyfriend because she's sure he's the cause of my "disgusting behaviour". FML

Being Australian, it's a bit weird watching all of you arguing about language differences. Who honestly cares? Each English culture has their own dialect, and people just need to accept that. Sure, sometimes it's fine to have a laugh over it, but getting into a fully fledged argument just seems a bit odd, IMO... @OP: This is kinda funny but crap for you at the same time - I can imagine you just standing there, dumbstruck, while your Mum shouts at you :P

It's true, Americans tried to change everything to try and be different, that's why we're like the only ones that have the steering on the left of the car. And people can say mum if they want it's their language it's what they know. Are you going to tell them next that they can't call fries chips, or chips crisps, or that instead of going by pounds they should have to go by dollars? It's their culture and their language deal with it.
