So he was having sex with other girl and his mum thought that was you. in the end you got grounded for going to the library. OUCH! FYL
wow that sucks for you
Can you read, because you can't spell?
Are all the British people brats? Or just the ones on FML? Haha, seriously people. You aren't better than the Americans. Get over it. If you want to get all technical over the English language, then tell me...how do you pronounce the letter "R"? Your arguments are stupid and nobody cares about your own bitter feelings about America. We own you. Live it. Love it. Learn it. OP: FYL. I don't know your mother, but I'm sure if you told her your boyfriend is a hoe, she'll come around. :)
It's pronounced "ar" or /ˈɑr/ if you want to be technical. Source: I work for Oxford English Dictionary.
I guess you forgot one thing moron, English was invented in ENGLAND, not America. Idiots like you had such a hard time with it that you had to change the spelling and pronunciation of many words. It's our language, you Americans decided to twist it to your own suitability and now you try correcting us? Not only is that totally arrogant but also completely irrational and stupid ... that describes a typical American
This is an awesome FML
yea it is. but it sucks for OP. edit: OP i like your name. stand up for yourself! =]
that really sucks cos that means someone else was in your boyfriend's bedroom then
...wow, where did you pluck that random observation from? p.s: i live near york! yay.
I have just had to create an account after God knows how many times of visiting this site due to how incredible these responses are. 'Mum' is the shorthand version of 'Mother' in every English speaking country on the planet. 'Mom' is just another, much younger version of this, mainly spoken in America. Neither is wrong, they are just different. English was indeed invented in England. Yes, it is based on Latin, infact if you want to get technical it is a direct descendant of Latin, along with all the major European languages. Every country developed it's own dialect which over the years became a separate fully functioning language with Italian retaining the most of it's Latin roots. This is the way the world works, it's called progression love, stop trying to be a smartass and besides, you are a direct descendant of a chimp so the way your pedantic little mind works, what does that make you? The UK and Britain are the same thing, as the full name is The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. We just use United Kingdom or Britain as it's shorter and so if you originate from there you are British. If you were born in England then you can narrow this down to being English. However, there is also Scottish, Welsh and Irish (Northern) included under this title and this is why there is no such thing as 'British' in language terms. The languages spoken in Britain are English, Welsh and Gaelic. The language spoken in England is English. Don't even get me started on accents! 57 The Republic of Ireland is not a member of the UK and like 76 and 116 say, good luck saying that to an Irish person. The whole 30 odd year IRA bombing campaign was based around The Republic wanting Northern Ireland back from the British to create a United Ireland, so you could call it a sore spot. 73 Just a quick question, but if this place is not called 'Britain' or 'England' anymore, (again, they are 2 different things but nevermind) then what is it called? I don't remember being sent the memo stating I was no longer a Brit born in England. 164 boy I hope you're just being a smartass. Funny if you are! Oh and 188...do they really do that for the cricketers?? Wow that totally passed me by, all I know about the Ashes is that we won for the first time in roughly a million years and Freddie Flintoff has buggered his knee...that's it!! And i'd just like to point out that English people, infact people in general don't have a problem with Americans, just a problem with stupid people no matter where you come from. 141 and 190 can come for lunch anytime. There will be no Pimms but there will most definately be Yorkshire tea :D
You know, now you made ME register, just to respond to YOU. English is by a far shot NOT a Latin-based language. That would make it a Romance language, a classification reserved for Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Romanian. English developed from old Germanic dialects, mainly the Anglo-Saxon branch. This happened after the Germanic dialects had been partially influenced by Latin, due to Roman expansion into the Germanic lands. The similarities between English and German are very evident when you study the grammar and basic vocabulary of both. Even which verbs are irregular is similar between the two.
Nice use of caps there. Perhaps you should go read what I was replying to before you go off on one. 195 stated that 'English was not invented by the English you idiots, at best it was modified by them. It is derrived from Latin, way to take credit for something not yours.' I was stating that actually, just like every language of Europe, it has descended from a dialect of Latin, and granted in the case of English to a lesser extent than Germanic but again, the point applies there too. This was clarifying ownership of a specific language in regard to the country it is spoken in and how no matter what its roots, the modern version of is something entirely different. Being a smartarse know it all myself I know that English is rooted in the Germanic language, I just don't feel the need to be so arrogant as to assume that people are stupid and so I take the point of other posters and do not ignore the fact that Latin did play a large part in creating the modern version of English, certainly more so than the other main descendant of Germanic, German and just clarify the facts. This is FML, not a site to trace the ancestry of language and I was sticking up for my country, not making a historical statement.
I acknowledged its Latin influences. Specifically, in my statement, "This happened after the Germanic dialects had been partially influenced by Latin, due to Roman expansion into the Germanic lands." Germanic was influenced directly by Latin prior to the Old-English split. English itself was then influenced by Latin and its later descendants, mainly French. Almost all of this influence was in the way of vocabulary borrowing. As such, English is still qualified as a Germanic language, as it contains the main characteristics of that grouping, and does not contain the main characteristics of the Romance languages. The fact that English was influenced by Latin and its descendants does not modify the fact that your statement, "Yes, it is based on Latin, infact if you want to get technical it is a direct descendant of Latin, along with all the major European languages," is flat out wrong. English is classified in the Germanic tree, which is separate from the Italic tree, of which Latin is a main root.
"just like every language of Europe, it has descended from a dialect of Latin," You should ask the Scandinavian, Slavic, Baltic, and Balkan countries where their languages came from. I'm sure they would enjoy enlightening you. Hopefully with kicks.
lol well ok to be honest i didn't follow it all that much this year but i do know that the year before the queen gave them medals for christs sake!! i was just like WOW we must have really hurt you by winning for all these years lol
you british fags think your all that.. your sooo fuken douchy that you have to respond with a full length paragraph explaining all the details and weak points of all of our arguments... its fuken retarded also, if you think that we ****** up ur language dont blame fukin bush, blame ur dam government they're the ones who imposed it on us (i have nothing against british people, just the fags that commented against america)
