Lay the blame

By jobless - 13/09/2015 14:07 - United States

Today, a guy came into my gas station, showed me the gun on his hip, and asked me to kindly empty the register. My asshole boss claimed afterwards that because we live in an open carry state, and because the guy didn't point the gun at me, that there was no actual robbery and I just gave him free money. FML

Your manager is an idiot. Period. Fyl OP.

Better not to work for someone who values money more than your life

Depending on the state you live in, you can actually sue your boss for negligence. Even though it is an open carry state, many (if not all) convenience store chains have statutes requiring that the manager/boss post a "No Weapons Allowed" sign on the premises. If they fail to do so, and you get robbed with the threat of a weapon (even if the robber only "brandished" it and didn't point it at you) you can sue for negligence, for unnecessary risk to the life of an employee, emotional damages and financial damages if you lost your job. I would seriously consider doing that OP, your boss is a galactic asshole if he actually fired you for getting robbed. Hope you find a way to turn all this around, buddy.

And yet there are people who still think open-carry is a good thing...

Hope you called HR and had that asshole fired, sounds like the ****** is more concerned about worthless money than your own life. You had no idea if he was a true threat or not, if the gun was loaded and the safety off, you didn't know. Better to comply and live than to refuse and get shot.

If he seriously believes that and won't back down, tell him you'll go to the local news with the story to see what they think. In fact, you should anyway.
