Lay the blame

Today, a guy came into my gas station, showed me the gun on his hip, and asked me to kindly empty the register. My asshole boss claimed afterwards that because we live in an open carry state, and because the guy didn't point the gun at me, that there was no actual robbery and I just gave him free money. FML

Your boss is stupid, that's still a threat and would be armed robbery which is a felony. Sorry OP, I'd look for a new job that values your life more.

The guy flashed his weapon and then made demands, it was an armed robbery whether the weapon was actually pointed at you or not. Your ex-employer is a piece of work.

Your boss is a very special kind of stupid.

Since the man did not use any sort of violence, nor did he brandish his gun (merely showed that it was on his hip, an open carry) it technically was not an armed robbery or even a robbery at that. Stolen money, yes that would be true, armed robbery? No.

It was a threat when he showed OP the gun. That would imply "hey, I've got a gun so do what I say" without having to actually say it. Thus, armed robbery.

"he merely showed it on his hip" ...That *is* brandishing.

In every retail job I had, I was told to do what the robber asked and don't be a (dead) hero. My safety is far more important. Sorry your boss doesn't see it that way.
