Lay the blame

Today, a guy came into my gas station, showed me the gun on his hip, and asked me to kindly empty the register. My asshole boss claimed afterwards that because we live in an open carry state, and because the guy didn't point the gun at me, that there was no actual robbery and I just gave him free money. FML

regardless you should have called the police and filed a report and your boss is a jerk

Showing/indicating a gun to someone is called Brandishing. Or if you want a fancy legal term, improper exhibition. Basically, if you exhibit the gun in any way that is threatening to the other person, that is brandishing regardless of open carry or CWP. Basically, just google brandishing firearm and you'll see all the info right there.

You should fight this! At least get some money out of it! Take it to court. I've worked in has stations for years and that was not something they can fire you over. Fight for your rights and go to court against the idiots who run that place! Start with a wrongful termination and go from there! I'm sorry OP! That is so dumb of your boss!

If it really isn't wrong (and I doubt it's not wrong), then it's stupid and needs to be fixed.

its ok now that youre fired hes the next person getting a gun pointed at him.

Your manager is dumb. Call the cops, open carry is legal in a lot of places, but brandishing a firearm is not legal.

Hey, wanna tell me where you work? I mean, if your manager doesn't consider demanding money while in possession of a firearm armed robbery... well, that's just free money right? That's just a polite request with your life on the line and no possible legal repercussions, and daddy needs a new pair of shoes. But seriously, sounds like your manager was dropped on his head repeatedly and with the growing frustration of a regretful parent.
