Lay the blame

By jobless - 13/09/2015 14:07 - United States

Today, a guy came into my gas station, showed me the gun on his hip, and asked me to kindly empty the register. My asshole boss claimed afterwards that because we live in an open carry state, and because the guy didn't point the gun at me, that there was no actual robbery and I just gave him free money. FML

Apply for unemployment for wrong full firing..and maybe access to the surveillance video for proof? Whether he pointed it to you or not it wasn't worth risking your life.

Based on the way you describe it here That actually is armed robbery. What he did is considered a threat. Hope you filed a police report.

Maybe you should call the police to see what they say.

Did he say "Would you kindly?"

It does not matter if you live in an open carry state or not. Gas stations are protected by laws that state no weapons may be carried on the premises at any time. That includes concealed carry and open carry. Sorry OP and I hope you find a job that values your life more than money.

LOL no, Gas stations are "protected" by no such law because no such law exists. Where did you even hear something so ridiculous? Gas stations are not federal or state property, they are private property, so there would be no way for a law like that to even work.

Legally, being an open carry state or not is irrelevant. There was a robbery, and it is considered armed because the thief was in possession of a weapon. He doesn't have to use it to threaten you for it to be considered armed.

I say sue the company, make millions off of it, and never have to work another day in your life.

An open carry state and you didn't have a gun to shoot him with?! Not too smart

Just because it is an open carry state doesn'g mean every single person has a gun with them. And maybe OP can't afford a gun.

i'm not sure how it is where OP is from, but i live in an open carry state & happen to work at a gas station. i just finished training not too long ago so i am still fresh on the laws & rules. now i work for a corporation. even though it is an open carry state, if someone comes in with a gun, drawn or not, it is considered a robbery. now we have to do exactly what they say, even if they don't make it known they have a weapon. we are not to put our lives at risk for any reason. & we are NOT allowed to bring weapons with us while we work, we will get fired. whether we use it to defend ourselves against a robbery or not.
