Looking for love in Alderaan places

By not4geeks - This FML is from back in 2009 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I went out on a first date with a cute guy. Turns out we won't be going on a date again because I didn't know the difference between "Star Wars" and "Star Trek." FML

How do you not know the difference? YDI. I'm a girl, and I'd dump you for that. It's proof positive that your interests clash.

Wow she deserves to get dumped just because she didn't know the difference between two stupid film/ tv productions? WOW. Um, for all you that say she deserves it are ******* geek-ass losers.I'm sorry but not everyone has grown up sitting around a ******* TV watching the same shit all their lives. FYL for dating a ******* loser.

who the hell cares what the difference is. He could of instead, explained it to you and not be such an ahole.

That is sorta dumb that he dumped you for not knowing the difference. I mean I know about star wars and stuff but not star trek. Never got in to it, still with that movie out still not in to it. And to everyone else who think's it's her fault. So what if she knows it or not, knowing the difference between two movies shouldn't keep your relationship together or not. If all else come to that, it could of made it better and they both could of sat down and watched the movies or whatever and he could teach her the difference in stead of dumping her.

YDI that's a sensitive issue plus the differences are right there in front of you.

YDI, the absolute easiest way to piss off a nerd is to mess up their interests. A comedian even did a skit about it on Comedy Central, about how you could walk up to the line to go see a new Star Wars movie and say "So is the Enterprise going to Tattoine in this one?" or something like that. As a Magic player, my blood boils every time I'm trying to explain it to someone and they state "Oh, so it's like Yu-Gi-Oh" or "So it's just pokemon for adults?" Conversation ender right there. Honestly, though, I'm with the people above me who say this is probably for the best. I stayed in a long relationship where we didn't have enough in common to make it work and I didn't realize that until too late. At least you found out early enough to not make any emotional investment in a doomed relationship.

Granted it's not hard to know the difference, but you're better off without a guy who'll turn you down over it. This is neither FYL or YDI.

I do not care for either Star Wars or Star Trek, but I would certainly lose interest in you if you did not know the difference. You are basically saying that you live under a rock. It's like someone saying that they don't know the difference between a guitar and a piano. You don't need to be a musician to think that they're a ******* idiot.
