Wow... people here are being really mean. You don't have to be stupid to not know the difference. You just have to supremely not care. Maybe sci-fi stuff bores her to tears, so she doesn't pay attention to any of the details when she hears about them on tv, in magazines, at work/school, etc. I absolutely hate professional sports, to the point where all I have to do is turn it on the tv and I will inevitably fall asleep. One day, someone at work asked me about a certain basketball team and I definitely thought it was a football team. Yes, most of the people in the US know this stuff, but I don't, because I really just don't care to know. You have to laugh it off as conflicting interests and get over it. However, because of this, it sounds like the two of you really didn't have much in common anyway. FYL for going out with a cute guy only to find out you weren't at all compatible.

YDI. That doesn't necessarily mean he's a nerd, that just means he doesn't want someone COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY CULTURALLY INEPT. You're stupid, I'm sorry. I've never seen either Star Trek OR Star Wars, but I still now that they're different... maybe because I live on planet Earth?

# 116 I'm a girl and I don't even know the difference between OC and 90210. LOL OP - What I'm understanding is the guy thought you basically lived under a rock. The original Star Trek and Star Wars were made a long time ago. But they were both just recently remade. Even if you've never watched it, there is no way you could have missed the previews for the movies and get a basic understanding of what's going on. I've never watched Star Trek, and I've never seen Star Wars in full, but I know the difference just from watching something on TV and seeing a preview. Are there no boys in your family? You'd more than likely get a basic understanding from them on either Star Trek or Star Wars. YDI for not knowing the difference. But then FYL for choosing a 'cute' guy who makes assumptions.
