I find it hard to believe that you didn't tell them you were vegetarian when they said they were cooking for you, if they didn't already know... I'm vegetarian and it's the first thing you do, out of reflex. Obviously, if it's true, these people are collossal assholes, but it sounds dubious.

Maybe they weren't in their coop and his parents just thought they were wandering around and not your chickens? It's a possibility, because aren't chicken coops for egg laying chickens set up differently than other coops? Being farmers they would be able to tell the difference so, maybe they aren't heartless, maybe your chickens were rebellious and got out?

To everyone who thinks eating chicken eggs is like eating aborted fetuses and what not, you're wrong. Hens lay eggs everyday - whether you have a rooster or not. So, assuming she didn't have a rooster, there were no embryos in the eggs. Anyhow, I'm sorry that you lost your pets. I hope you and your soon to be family can get past this problem.

Wow, it wasn't their place to kill them, even if you ate chickens. What if you were saving them for something like the county fair or something? Or any other reason!

I clicked YDI for being too stupid to communicate first. As a vegetarian, you should realize that most people aren't vegetarians and, moreover, most people aren't going to assume you're a vegetarian. Somebody cooking a meal for you is going to assume you eat meat unless you specifically tell them otherwise. Oh, and #32, I hope you can live with yourself, thinking of all the poor, defenseless animals that get murdered in the machines which sow and harvest your salad, animal killer.
