No good deed…

Today, someone was getting beat up by 6 guys. When I tried to help, they had a swing at me as well. The cops came when I was enthusiastically defending myself. They got away, I got arrested. FML

I don't get it... first of all don't the police arrest everyone involved in the fight and then find out, when they have calmed down, what actually happened? (At least, I'd think that is the logical thing to do). Then, how did the other guys escaped? Also, please fill us out with the rest of the story - did you tell the police or not as to what actually happened? If not, YDI big time! Also, did the police release you? I am not sure why you were "enthusiastically" defending yourself? Sort of sounds as if you were enjoying yourself!

Some guys use that as an excuse to throw punches. (I didn't start the fight but I sure and hell ended it. etc...) Cops saw right through you. Don't bitch. You know why you were arrested.

that's wrong. when my mom worked at a jail she told me what happen to a guy that was in there. Someone broken into his house and the home owner pulled a guy on the guy braking in and called the cops. when the cops showed up they arrested the home owner and let the criminal go free.

Right you are. You should always fight 6 guys at once as long as A) your name is Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Jason Statham, or James T. Kirk AND B) you're in a movie or on television. Luis, if you believe what you said then you're an idiot. If you don't, you're a troll. Either way I don't see you getting out of this one cleanly.

Yes, you got arrested and that really sucks, however you most likely will not get charged, that is if you defended yourself within the law. Sometimes good people go to jail, and that is because the police want to sort things out. As long as you can relay that they had the ability, opportunity and desire to cause bodily harm to you, you will probably be fine. In my state, Washington, our state code states that defending yourself is not unlawful "whenever used by a party about to be injured, or by another lawfully aiding him or her," and it also states the force cannot be more than what is necessary. I think throughout the western world these laws, although they differ slightly, are universal and that as long as you did not continue to attack when you were no longer in danger you are fine. Besides, it is our God given right to protect ourselves, and to go a step farther to protect another human being from harm is absolutely astounding as there are far too many people in the world who are just content to be a bystander. Good job op.
