You should have been more careful about how you tried to help. Joining in the fight might not have been the best solution, calling the cops from a safer distance might have been more advisable. Especially since you 'enthusiastically' joined in, which suggests you might have looked like you were enjoying yourself when the cops arrived.
There is that, I never said what he did was wrong. Just maybe from the point of view of the cops it wasn't the best way of going about it. There is also what's known as 'appropriate response' maybe it's possible the OP went over that?
My iPhone says OP is in the Netherlands. Their laws involving self defense and helping somebody in need are probably different. Also the way cops charge people is no doubt different too.
VoodooGypsy - Yes, the FML says that the OP is from the Netherlands. However, I imagine they have some form of self-defence laws. If the OP would automatically get arrested for fighting (even if they were helping someone else) then he should have known that. Chaos - Well there is that, but the OP did join the fight out of his own free will. Yes, he did it to help someone else, but he knew what he was getting into.
No offense, but you kind of deserved it. By "enthusiastically defending yourself" it gave the police the impression that your trying to get out of it. The best thing to do would have been to tell them calmy when they asked for the story and let them restrain the 6 guys. I bet the person you helped would have spoken for you though. Idk why they didn't
he was defending himself from the six dudes, you idiot. not the cops.
63- No, you are the idiot, Sir. The commented above had it correct. OP was "enthusiastically defending himself" from the six people, which gave the police, who arrested him and asked for his story, the impression elsewise. You are the weakest link. Goodbye.
Defending yourself. Don't be enthuseastic about it... Only gets worse.
the same thing happened to me a few years ago. some chick broke the windshield out of my BMW then a few months later had the gorilla balls to come to my house so I beat that ass in MY own yard and got arrested! then SHE pressed charges. I knew she busted my window but couldn't PROVE it. but the police SAW me throwing hay makers! it sucked!
Not a ninja.
I hope that the man who was being beaten up was still conscious by the time the cops came, and he is well aware of the fact that you were not one of the men who was beating him up.

I'm sure the guy you were trying to help will speak for you.
haha.. I bet you were dressed in a green leotard and announced "I'm kickass" before jumping in to help.
