Nope

Today, the guy I liked came over for dinner with some friends. One of them asked him if we were dating, he became so distraught he started to choke on the food I had made, in his haste to tell them that in no uncertain terms, were we together. FML

This is phrased really badly. I can't tell if he was saying no or yes, because you used the phrase "in no uncertain terms" it makes it seem like he choked while saying yes you are together.

He probably did that because he does like you and wants to be protected against any rejection embarrassment. Sure it's a dick move, but so many people do this because humans are ****** and stupid always.

#26 you obviously don't get it. If you're going to correct their grammar, make sure you understand the sentence first. The OP said "...I had made, in his haste to tell them that in no uncertain terms, were we together." Even with the "were we" instead of "we were", it still doesn't say that the guy was trying to say they weren't together. It seems like you are just as mistaken as the OP in believing that, because the word "no" is in "in no uncertain terms", it automatically means the person was denying it. The grammar on the FML is just too messed up. In this case it'd be "...I had made in his haste to tell them, in no uncertain terms, that we weren't together." The use of the phrase "in no uncertain terms" was just stupid here, and the comma is misplaced. Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone, but stop trying to be a smart ass. Kaythxbai.

Okay now that I reread it, I get what you're trying to say. You honestly did phrase that very poorly. Which blows, but at least now you know, and you can focus your energy on other things.

Yes I understand that the sentence is confusing and poorly written and either way doesn't make much sense. I never said it didn't.... I just said make sure you've read the sentence correcly before you go correcting it. With the way a few people had it corrected, it made even less sense than it does now. With it being "were we", changing the "were" to "weren't" wouldn't fix the problem. That's mostly what I was aiming at there... Sorry if you took that so personally or if you were confused. I can see I didn't say exactly what I was trying to say there and I probably should have. And, yes, I do know what "no uncertain terms" means.

I do get what you're saying and that's awful but this is so badly written.

Erm, excuse me, but when I commented however long ago, I'm pretty sure it still said "we were" as opposed to the "were we" it says now. I could be wrong (it *is* 2am, after all), and everyone should feel free to correct me if I am, but I was/am pretty sure that's what it said originally :S Regardless, though, the English in this post is very dodgy. And being that this site makes a point of demanding decent and/or above average spelling and grammar skills, it's no wonder everyone's commenting on it. Is all!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is confused by this one. Seriously, don't use word or phrases unless you know what they mean. :/

This doesn't even make sense. They should filter out FMLs written this badly. I can't tell if she's saying he said they were together or they weren't together.

The grammar confused me... but either way... c'mon... He was choking and nobody did the Heimlich? Bad maybe-dating-girlfriend....

...So. You like him. And he told them that you were together? And this is... bad? What?

Agreed with #39 100%. next time, punch him in the stomach and say it was "heimlich manuver"
