Today, my new antidepressants finally kicked in. I switched to them to try to control my anxiety. Turns out that the most common side effect, funnily enough, is nervousness. Guess I should've done more research. FML

Hey, no worries, there's always other options. Also, consult your doctor, he or she could help too. :)

There are meds that are specifically anti-anxiety (like Ativan). They are usually taken in combination with an SSRI (anti-depressant). I'm not a doctor or pharmacist, so I can't speak to what each med does or how they're different, but there are meds specifically for anxiety. I have generalized anxiety and have taken various combos of both over the years, which is the basis of my (admittedly weak) knowledge.

Luckily the psychiatrist who monitored my status was really perceptive in eventually prescribing me Efixor. It doesn't work for everyone, but I used to wake up with a panic attack every morning, (on top of having Major Depressive Disorder), and now I don't :) There isn't a one pill fixes all, you need to figure out what works for you!

Yeah my anxiety got a lot worse in the first week I took them. On my second/third week now and still experiencing fight and flight responses ?

You're just gonna pop some pull every day to ALTER YOUR BRAIN, and you don't read into it whatsoever?!

I'm only 19 years old and already in my life I've taken 4 different types of antidepressants. I've struggled with anxiety my whole life and depression since middle school. The first medication I took worked pretty well and I didn't have any problems for a long time but then my body got used to it and it sorta just stopped working, and when they uped the dosage it just made me feel worse. The stuff I'm on now is the best I've had in a while, the only problem is I've recently been told I have border line autism, so I may be on my 5th medication here soon.

That's unfortunately very common. There seems to be a downward spiral like that with many psychotropic drugs.

Are you seeing a shrink or just your GP? Psych meds can be serious business, and it's worth seeing someone that specializes in that stuff. Trust me, I'm crazy.

I think you mean your doctor should have done more research.

I know the feeling. I used to have anti-depressants that caused anxiety and anti-anxiety that caused depression....medicines can be kind of a mess...just hang in there and be strong. maybe one day you won't have to take any at all.

That's astoundingly ironic not only because it can have the exact effects that you're trying to get rid of - but I started Zoloft yesterday and it did the same thing to me! Don't worry, OP. You will find the medication that works for you and makes you feel better.
