Old school prank

Today, my cousin told me that the stop signs outlined with a white line were optional. Later, a cop pulled me over, when I asked why he said, "You ran that stop sign back there." I explained what my cousin had told me and he looked at me funny and replied, "All stop signs have a white outline." FML

You deserved getting pulled over for actually believing that BS. Why would they put a traffic sign up if you didn't have to obey it? Sounds a bit stupid to me.

and how did you get a permit? or license or whatever you have? how old are you?

didn't you start to wonder why every stop sign was "optional"?

If you paid attention to what he said, he mentioned America in reference to this douche that's driving around. He's assuming the OP isn't in North Carolina.

Actually, the optional stop signs are the ones that read "STOP if you feel like it."

you're stupid. I thought that was obvious.

Not to say he didn't deserve it, but many years ago (back when I was in drivers ed, mid 90s) the Oklahoma Driver's Manual did in fact say that any sign with a white boarder was optional. Taking a look today, they've removed that text. It was put in back when stop signs/yield signs/etc didn't have the white boarder for night visibility, so the only signs with white borders were typically those hanging over highways or the "Exit here" type signs. Of course, anyone who was taking drivers ed back then knew that if you didn't stop at a stop sign you would be fined if caught so, YDI.
