Panic!

By bosssssssss765432 - 16/05/2009 15:20 - United States

Today, I was at the doctor and I had to get a fingerstick in the lab to get blood drawn. There was a 6 year-old boy waiting to go next. He was terrified. His mother told him to, "Watch this brave girl go first." I panicked and began to hyperventilate. The kid fainted. FML

#16: You said you have had your "fair share" of blood work done, therefore you would be immune to it, don't you think? And no, it is NOT, a "little" prick it hurts. Oh, we don't even know the OP's tolerance of pain now do we? So shut the hell up and stop acting all high and mighty, you can deal with pain. Good for you, want a cookie? OP: Aww, I hate when I have to set an example for people. I ALWAYS mess up, it is the pressure of being watched and having to do something right so other people can follow you.

she shouldnt of used you of an example. its not your fault that the kid fainted really.

dude, i feel for ya. when they did that to me the first time i kicked without meaning to and missed the nurse's knee by inches...

I get why the boy was panicking. Why you would have a panic attack over that... I just don't get it. Aren't you like grown up?

That was unfair to you that the mom did that. It's like making you the bad guy or the grand example. If she really wanted to help her son, she probably should have tried to distract him while it was being done. I could never watch someone have something done to them, when it's also expected to be done to me. I'd have to go first. Some people are really freaked out by getting blood drawn. Even a finger prick. The first time I got one, I about chocked my mother in a hug and cried later. (The other times I didn't even care.) Sure there's TONS of things more painful, but it doesn't make this one any less, regardless of your age. Why wasn't this in private though? Why was he even there to witness it?

Yeah, you sure are brave...

I hate those things!! I'd rather get a shot than a finger prick.

I do the SAME THING. I hyperventilate when I get injections or blood drawn. Needles freak me out (and I'm supposedly "old enough" to know how to control this). I would have just said that he better not follow your example. xD

stuff like that happens to all of us (maybe except the fainting part), dont feel to bad about it
