Put that in your pipe and smoke it

Today, I was shopping when I overheard a woman telling an employee that she was buying an iPad for her 5-year-old son. Annoyed, I turned around and ranted about how he should have more age appropriate toys. Then she explained that her son is autistic and will be using the iPad to communicate. FML

146 I work with autistic kids and the iPad yes does help him to communicate but! It also teaches them basic things and we communicate with them with pictures and colours I have a boy that's about 18-19 and he can work an iPad he uses it at home to send emails with directions and so forth

As a teacher it irritates me to no end that parents give their children iPads however I'm not DUMB enough to say that out loud to them... But I'm also not ignorant to judge either YDI

There is a saying, and OP, I believe you might need to remember this one: AssUme - makes an ass out of you!

I'd feel bad too, but here's the sad part: I think she's probably "using the i-pad for communication" through something called "facilitated communication," which is an absolute and total fraud which has been disproven time and time again. It's a way for parents to believe that their child is a hidden genius. It's just about the saddest thing I can think of.

Busybody, mind your own business in the future lol

This sounds a whole lot like a news story i heard the other day... Hmmm..

I don't understand. I mean, yeah, you should mind your own business, but everyone talks about autism like it's a terrible thing. I've had it my whole life and I never needed super-expensive electronics to deal with it.
