Come on people, how many of you actually own cats or even dogs? They can and do suddenly jump on you or surprise you illiciting a instinctive violent reaction. And how many of you can honestly properly meter your own strength when you've just woken up and are probably still half asleep and/or startled. Obviously this person in sharing this story because they feel bad about it. It was a friggin mistake. Just wait 'til you all have children and accidently knock them off a swing or something. Try posting an FML about that and see how many people tell you about how you fail at parenting. It happens.

OP, don't take all the insults these people say to heart. Feeling aweful about your mistake and learning from it is what makes good parents. Besides, young children are surprisingly more resilient than they appear. Their bones and joints are still soft and flexible. And as tender and gentle as you try to be with the living beings you care for, everyone ultimately makes a mistake. I've accidently stepped on my dog (whom I adore and would never want to intentionally injure, for all you supposed animal lovers out there) a countless number of times as he so easily gets under foot when I simply can't see that he's there. One lapse in judgement does not by any means make you a bad parent or animal owner.
