when you are biking you have to do hand signals. That succks OP that an idiot didnt know the hand signals.
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE IDIOT!! the bastard could have killed you!!! at least you're alive
I hope the driver paid for everything. I'm thinking they might've known that they were hand signals, and they just decided to put their head up their ass for the day. To everyone saying, "Get a car," I'm pretty sure everyone knows that bikes are more environmentally friendly then a car. Plus, the OP is getting exercise, which is even better then letting an engine do all the work for you. Personally, if a driver can't understand how hand signals work and how to drive around pedestrians, they shouldn't be driving. Also, people with motorcycles sometimes use hand signals too, so shut up about who uses them anymore. What is annoying though is when bikes use the car lanes instead of the bike lane when everyone knows they can't keep up with the traffic.
op
op lives in the US. and people in the US mainly drive cars so there's not a lot of bike lanes that take you where you want to go.
Lol you got ran over by the Todd
Unfortunately, in many areas is *is* illegal to bike on the sidewalks, it's just rarely enforced. I bike a lot for exercise and for light transportation, and I've ended up using the sidewalks after many close encounters and a collision with careless, ignorant drivers. You really have no protection against a huge hunk of steel when you're on a bike, and I'd rather pay a ticket than be crippled for life. I've yet to have an officer approach me (then again, I do kind of look like a little girl...), but I consider it a form of civil disobedience. I respect the OP for following the law though. Also for using a bike as transportation for an everyday need such as getting to work. Unfortunately, where I live, biking to work would usually mean arriving a sweaty mess, covered in sunblock since I burn easily. I truly hope that the driver who tried to high five the OP was arrested. Perhaps for attempted vehicular manslaughter? If you think I'm exaggerating, try playing out the scenario in your head a few times. Someone strikes a law-abiding bicyclist in the middle of a busy intersection. He is thrown from his bike, under the tires of the car next to him. Seems very likely, and anyone should know that hitting him would cause him to wipe out, otherwise they are completely incompetent to be behind the wheel of a potentially deadly car. Too many people treat driving like it's a game, and it has cost too many of my friends their lives.
Its a lot better than you being in 2 pieces.
#76 is correct. I don't have a bicycle, but I have several motorcycles. CAR DRIVERS are such CLUELESS IDIOTS that I have learned to use BOTH the blinkers AND hand signals so I can get through their THICK SKULLS that I am here and that I want to make a turn. I have seen cars behind me TAKE A NOSE DIVE when they suddenly ******* realize that I'm there. It's not the OP that is clueless. It's the idiot in the car (who had to be the passenger to high-five a cyclist). Bicycling on the sidewalks is illegal here (Missouri, reinforced by city ordinances as well). I think #69 is onto something, though. Blinkers on a bicycle would make that bike MUCH more visible, keeps both of your hands on the bars, and would make cage drivers (that's cars/SUVs for you non-riders) deal with the fact that they have to SHARE THE ******* ROAD! WE HAD ROADS FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS BEFORE WE HAD CARS, PEOPLE!
oh, because .. you know.. that's the kind of thing you'd do. randomly stick your hand out the window in an attempt to hi-5 people while driving. yeah, ofcource.

That totally sucks! More bike riders should use hand signals. They don't have turn-signals on their bike like a car does. I vote its an FYL since the moron driving obviously wasn't paying attention in driver's ed.
Gripes. Hope that moron's paying for that.
