Because fostering that kind of behavior in the home is absolutely hysterical! He (assuming OP is a guy) should totally be encouraged into thinking that is acceptable behavior so he can act like that to some poor girl with self esteem issues! I see absolutely nothing wrong with his joke, and damn that mom for hitting her child! She completely overreacted! Someone should call CPS!

Nah, my kids four years old and doesn't respond well to being hit, so now, I use a dart gun. That's the last time he ever refuses to eat his veggies.
