That whole argument aside of whether hitting kids is good discipline, this wasn't exactly discipline; OP, who's no longer a toddler or child I assume, insulted his mother, and she hit him. If it was meant as discipline, I doubt it'd be the hardest that OP's ever been hit, since usually parents just lightly slap their kids so it stings, but doesn't actually damage them. (I used to think that my mom hit me really hard, until I actually got punched by someone.) And I'm sure OP now knows not to tell his mom to go to the kitchen, so I say it worked.
