Today, I thought it would be funny to smack my daughter's head gently with a balloon. It hit her hair clip and exploded. She won't stop crying, and my wife will be home any minute. I'm screwed. FML

Yeah, as you can tell by the FML he absolutely MEANT to scare the crap out of her, which is a dick move. Had it happened accidentally, it would just be an unfortunate mistake. Oh wait, it was an accident. I'd say that makes him not a dick in this particular situation.

He knew she was wearing a hair clip. Did he not know the possibility of it popping? Accident or not, you always have to be aware of possibilities.

You can't assume he noticed or was conscious of the fact that she was wearing a hair clip. Dads don't always notice those types of things.
