Today, I went to the doctor and found out that I am infertile. When I called my boyfriend of 2 years, with whom I was hoping to have a future, to talk to him about it, all he said was, "So does this mean I don't have to wear a condom anymore?" FML

I don't think your boyfriend was trying to be insensitive. I'm a chick and condoms were the first thing I thought of too. It was just a reaction - I'm sure he does feel sorry for you and isn't a heartless jerk.

Sorry to hear that OP. Your bf deserves to be kicked in the balls for that. Gentlemen, there's a fine line between saying "Oh I'm sorry to hear that... but look on the bright side: we won't need condoms!" and an incredibly insensitive comment like what the OP posted. And people, AIDS is the end-stage manifestation of an HIV infection. It's very obvious when someone has AIDS. An HIV infection, however, can remain asymptomatic for decades. The carrier, unless he gets tested, will not have any idea that he/she has it and can potentially walk around and infect plenty of sex partners. This is why condoms should be used more often than they are. Also, the OP may not have been able to go on the pill (there are medical contraindications to taking the pill) or some other form of birth control, making it necessary for them to use condoms as the only way of contraception for 2 years. Some of the comments above are really a good demonstration of why the sex ed systems in certain countries (I'm guessing the US) are such epic fails.

First, they should explain and test e/o on the "anonymous" thing before they give out accounts. (#49) Another case where the little brain got out in front of the big brain. Some people don't react well to stressful situations (funerals, etc.)... or he's an a-hole. So if it's the former, give him time; if it's the latter, it might be time to reflect on whether he is LTR material or not.
