They're definitely allowed to
They do that to see if you are paying attention to the road. Since you did the illegal U turn it showed your instructor you weren't ready.
Reading these comments, all of you are idiots. It's a TEST.
? that's complete bullshit. Sorry to hear that, op.
I don't know what state you're in OP, but in California it's illegal for them to trick you or instruct you to do something illegal, in hopes you'll catch it and/or not do it. For me, they told me at the beginning of the test they wouldn't try to trick me or give any false directions. I would do some research and try and get some justice!
They do that to check if you know the rules... It's plain logic. They want to see If you are good enough to look at the signs saying "No U-Turns", and say No.
Yeah they do that to test you out. A friend was taking her test, and he told her to stop the car and she did, which he yelled at her for because you weren't supposed to just stop the car in the middle of the street. Esp when the car behind them could've of hit them. And he failed her for that. When they tell you to do something illegal, don't listen, it's a test.
Il watch out for that on my test.. Thanks OP and also sorry!

Why would he let you take an illegal turn, or even suggest it in the first place? Sounds to me like someone has to reread their job description
What an asshat
