Today, I had to explain to a woman I didn't know that my husband was killed overseas. She replied, "I know exactly how you feel, my dog died last month." FML

When my husband was deployed, a co-worker told me she knew what it felt like because she watched "Army Wives." Socks, I'm sorry that this happened to you. People can say really insensitive things when they're trying to share in your pain. Please remember that support will be there wherever you look!

People don't know to respect space & ask too many questions. I love dogs but the pain from losing my dog would b nothing compared to losing my husband. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Any other time I would have scoffed as much a you, but my dog that was my best friend for eight years died last week and it's devastating. I truly believe that she does understand.

I don't want to sound like an asshole but does it really matter if he was killed because he was in the army/marines/airforce/etc? Anyways, some people treat their pets like family so actually I don't see any problem with her comment.

I am a young military widow and insensitive people are constantly comparing my husbands death to small things as well. You have to learn to ignore them or comment with witty widow humor.

How sorry we all are. How could we not realise that your pain eclipses every single other pain in the whole wide world. You are serioudly bashing people for trying to show empathy, really? I can just imagine people coming to you and saying " i know how you feel my husband died" and you cussing them out cause they are not some army hero. People are only trying to help and that how humans empathise, sharing similar stories.
