It's not the best thing to say but not the worst. She meant well and maybe her pet meant the world to her. Some ppl treat their pets better than human.
This shouldn't be on FML in the first place and imho, if my partner would die/be killed, I'd never even consider posting it on FML, let alone only to point out such a trivial fact.
Because human is comparable to that of an animal's? When it comes to the loss of someone's loved one, sometimes it's best to say nothing if you never experienced the same thing before. Lest you look like an insensitive dolt.
Maybe you don't like your pets, but who are you to judged that animals can't be as important as humans to some people ?
Her husband died overseas, most likely in the army doing something for this country. Losing a person in the armed forces is WAY sadder than losing a dog. Learn beore starting any "animals cant be treated as humans" argument.

Times like this .... She probably wished, she thought about what she was going to say.
That woman should hang out with the friend in another fml who said that losing her cat was worse than the op's younger brother.
Losing a family pet is devestating, but - and I say this as an animal lover - that is still not what you say to someone who has lost a loved one, especially not in a case like this. Although rationally the rest of us know she didn't mean to be offensive, to his grieving widow it would sound incredibly hurtful. Think before you speak, people!!
