Sounds like a keeper

Today, my mom broke it off with her online boyfriend. That wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact he's in the military, knows our address, and apparently is threatening to kill himself if she doesn't take him back. She tells me not to worry cause we have guns in the house, but I still don't feel safe. FML

Contact his commanding officer and let them know of his behavior, military doesn't look too kindly on that sort of behavior. and threatening to kill oneself is a manipulation tactic.

If you know anything about his military job--his commanding officer, where he's stationed, etc--and you are able to obtain proof of his threats, contact them and let them know what he's doing. They usually take a very dim view of this sort of thing and can either rain down punishment on him or send him in for an evaluation, whichever comes first. Also, if you're in the same state, look into local legislation to see if you can press charges independent of your mother. If she won't take this seriously then somebody has to.

Why does it matter if you have guns in the house if he's threatening to kill himself? How can that make any difference in the situation?🤔

Because he might be thinking of killing them first, then suicide. So the mother could be implying that she can protect the two of them in that case.

The "guns in the house" thing would just make me worry much more, to be honest.
