He knew about the surgery ahead of time ,so he can't fire you.
In a good number of states, you can only qualify for FMLA if you have worked for your employer minimum of 12 months and as full time or close to full time. I hope that OP is able to take steps to keep their job unless they were unhappy working there...then maybe this will be a blessing in disguise.
FMLA requires that your company make over 250k and have 50+ employees. So if it's a small business, FMLA doesn't apply.

ydi for giving your boss a progress report. what did you expect? Him to be like, well i enjoy being understaffed so you can take as long as you like before coming back.

Have the doctor talk to your boss.
You should have at least told him you were stuck in bed. However, I'd presume it's a hollow threat.

That's illegal. Employers have to give you leave for things like surgery. There's a federal act that mandates it called FMLA. If he attempts to fire you over this, you can definitely get him in a lot of trouble.
