Kids these days think that "things" are just handed to them. When I was in school I either worked for what I got or I went without it. The entitlement issues kids have now is way out of hand.

I feel like this situation has happened before, maybe not with the cop there, but if your daughter thinks it will work then it's likely a learned behaviour that you've given into in the past, even babies learn if they do a certain thing to get their way that they can do it again. I never carried a purse till I got my driver's license. So I could hold my wallet, car keys, registration...etc why would a 12yr old need a purse?

Sometimes kids just don't understand what it's like to earn popularity or nice things. I'd try to show her what it's like to live without so she can appreciate what she has.
