You realize it's only a matter of opinion. In the US the age of consent is 18 and you tend to think anyone having sex younger than that is an irresponsible child. But just to remind you that the age of consent in the UK is 16, in Japan it's 13 and somewhere in the Middle East it's 11 (although I suspect for other reasons). The only one who can decide if a person's responsible enough to have sex is that person themselves. If someone has sex with whoever, whenever just so they can say that they're not a virgin anymore is probably not that clever in other aspects of life either. But hey, nowadays if you do something stupid and end up with a kid, it seems quite common that mommy will look after it for you, so society isn't exactly teaching responsibility anyway.

49 - Actually the age of consent varies by state. Here in Washington the age of consent is 16. Hawaii used to have the youngest at 13, but in the last couple years raised it to 16. The highest age of consent (I want to say is in Oklahoma, but don't quote me) is 19 in one state. That being said, I agree with you completely. It really is a matter of opinion and choice.

The age of concient in the middle east has little do do with age directly; a child is considered an adult at the age of puberty and expected to take on various responsibilities at that time, including (if Muslim) daily prayers and yearly fasting. I hope those are the "other reasons" you suspected.

54, A purity ring, like a wedding ring, is a symbol of a commitment. That doesn't make it stupid.

I think that a purity Ring is stupid, simply because you should not need something to show you are commited to something (wedding rings are more to say no you dont want to bang every person present). If you decide you want to stay a virgin go for it, but if you have a ring and then decide to get laid... You just wasted money on that ring and look like a hippocrit and ass for flaunting your commitment to somethimg you threw away.
