Today, I had a violent coughing fit while at the store, which caused a lady to think I was choking, grab me from behind and start doing the Heimlich maneuver incorrectly. She broke two of my ribs. FML

True, but the Hemmlich is done to get the person choking to cough. OP was already coughing so that lady should have never started the Hemmlich maneuver.

Doesn't necessarily mean she did it wrong. You can break rips or get damaged organs, which is why you should always get a checkup after receiving the heimlich. There may be hidden damages.

the heimlich is suppose to break ur ribs if done properly just saying

It's supposed to crack them and leave some bruising. But you won't end up with 2 broken ribs from the Heimlich.

The first step in doing the Heimlich is to encourage coughing. Then ask for consent to do it. If you can talk cough or breathe you don't need it. You can sue. Hope you did
