The price of love

By broke - 05/05/2009 04:07 - United States

Today, I got home from visiting my long-distance girlfriend. I spent $366 to get a plane ticket to visit her for the week. The day after I arrived there, she broke up with me and I had to buy a ticket for an earlier flight home. With fees and penalties, I paid around $550 to be broken up with. FML

Ok, firstly, you definitely did not add all of the context. You guys may have been ending for a while, and you were holding onto a thread of what you used to have. Long distance def doesn't work when both parties aren't committed. And did you surprise her with this trip or what? Because that puts her in an awkward position if she had been wanting to break up with you for a while, but wanted to do it face to face like any good person should do it. Would it have been better over the phone??? or better yet, through facebook??? and you didn't have to leave early either. I'm sure it was a decent enough sized city (or there was a close enough one nearby) that you could have stayed at until the week was over. It sucks that she dumped you, but thats life. get over it.

It sounds like you're better off without her! Obviously this girl did not have enough curteousy and respect to break up with you before you spent hundreds of dollars on an airline ticket to go and visit her.

How can someone who can't even spell paid correctly have that much money to throw away? If you're that upset about the money you spent, maybe you shouldn't have spent it. You're obviously not heartbroken, so I have no sympathy for you, sorry.

Thank you #33 and #35! both comments= my words exactly!!!! (but you beat me to them)

LDRs are one case where phone breakups might be more kind.

#38 drama...ooooo, if thats true then YDI

Damn man, that sucks. I understand that some people feel bad about breaking up with people not face to face, but I think a phone call would've been appropriate there.

Most US airlines (minus Southwest) will let you standby on earlier flights with no penalties. Just in case it ever happens again.
