People appear to be confused and misconstruing stuff here.... OP is in the UK, so, as someone said "walking down the road" just means he was following a street, but he states he was on the pavement (sidewalk) so he's not at fault at all! A quad bike is an engined motor vehicle and as such it is illegal to ride it in the pavements and footpaths in the UK! Quad biker is indeed a twat and should be shot or something!
The quad rider shouldn't necessarily be shot, but needs to stop being such an entitled prick. He was in the wrong and needs to own up to that. Hope the OP is better from this clearly avoidable accident.
