Today, I heard my sister gagging in her room. She was doing it quietly, and I got pretty concerned, after hearing a lot about bulimia recently. I knocked, then heard a gasp, so I let myself in, only to see her on her knees and her boyfriend with his underwear around his ankles. FML

One of those moments where you wish you could have the mind wipe device from "Men in Black." Most definitely FYL, OP.

To people saying OP's sister would have been gagging in the bathroom if she had an ED... that's not necessarily the case. I have a friend who struggled with an ED, and he used to purge in his room and keep the vomit hidden in tupperware containers, under his bed and in his closet. Thankfully things got better for him, but when I asked why he would do it in his room and not the bathroom, he told me he wanted to hide it better, and the bathroom was just way too obvious for him. Point being, OP wasn't too far off his mark for thinking his sister was purging in her room. I'm glad that wasn't the case, but still, be prepared for awkwardness for a while. FYL OP!

I'm guessing the OP came in before his sisters boyfriend did...

I feel like most people with body issues strong enough to make you turn bulimic would still prefer a bathroom for their purging needs, instead of their bedroom... That's just me though.

Like someone stated before, some people prefer to do it in their rooms because they feel it's more private and can hide it better than going to the bathroom. A lot of people usually go off to their bedroom to study, talk to friends or whatever else after a meal but if they were to go to the bathroom after they ate each time, it would be more obvious. It's usually easier for people to hide things in their bedroom because it's their private space.

yeah, later when she's passed out from choking on something she was eating

If you knew he was there (if you did) that should have been your first thought (although gross) since you are a male

I'm sure that sparked a mixture of relief and horror.

If someone is really concerned they shouldn't wait until after, if OP was really set on the thought that his sister was making herself throw up then catching her in the act would have been better rather than waiting. Catching someone in the act is better in the way that they can't later deny it because they were caught red handed. If OP waited until later and mentioned it, his sister could have denied doing anything. If she's old enough to be getting intimate with her partner then she should be smart enough to lock her door or wait until they are alone. OP was concerned so it's understandable that he walked in to talk to her.
