Time for lunch in the parking lot

By Anonymous - This FML is from back in 2012 but it's good stuff - United States - Cottonwood

Today, I started my first day of work at our local humane society. I asked where the break room was, so my coworker directed me to a small room in the back of the building. The only place I get to take my lunch break is the same room where they euthanize, freeze, and cremate the animals. FML

I will NOT make a joke about taking your work home...I will NOT make a joke about taking your work home for dinner... Oh, DAMMIT!

From a business strategy it's perfect. Your employees will never stop to take a break.

Calling OSHA could shut that shelter down which would most likely result in mass euthanasia. Shelters are generally poor and don't have much money to be able to put towards things other than the animals. Take your lunch in your car or outside.

Exactly! You should want to forego a break room so that the animals have more space and less of them are euthanized. Most shelter workers think that way. They don't do it for the money, they do it for animal welfare

I thought humane societies were no kill shelters.

Not all of them. The one in my area isn't, anyway. Last time I was there, they said they keep animals a week and if no one claims or adopts them, they get euthanized. Edit: just realized OP lives in the same area I do. I'm probably thinking of the shelter they work at.

No most euthanize. And to the comment above it is a week they keep them alive if they are registered pets with tags. if they are stray or have no tags they are killed after only 3 days. Oh and If they notify owners at all that they have picked up their pet it is by mail which means by the time you know they have them they could have already killed them. If you have a missing pet you are supposedly supposed to physically drive out to the place every day to check.

Yea YDI for working at place that euthanizes thousands of healthy adoptable animals. If you are uncomfortable with it don't work there, work at a no kill shelter.

Most of the dogs and cats there have been there for over a year. They don't euthanize for space. Only if they are ill beyond treatment, aggressive and not responding to training, or over 13 years old and have been there for a year. So the animals in the freezer have been there for awhile.

I think I would take my lunch somewhere away from the building. In my car, at a park anywhere but in that room.

Why the hell is this getting so many YDIs? This sucks so much...

Something wrong with the app apparently

Are you sure you're not being punked? I'd ask someone in charge! As a vegetarian, I wouldn't eat there but, I wouldn't work there either!

You can use the thing they cremate the animals with as a Microwave

I never cry when a dog dies in a movie. Personally I hate dogs except for about 3 breeds. Otherwise they're disgusting to me.

~Bad commenter! BAD! SHARE MY OPINION ON DOGS DAMMIT!!!!~

You'd think they would have a separate room, because that is sick. And possibly a health hazard.
