Today, a kid grabbed the receiver to my cochlear implant and ran off with it. I went to a security guard, and, if my lip reading was accurate, he said to "try and make it through the day without it". Without it, I can't hear anything. FML

Lady Z- I'd like to apologize for all of the rude comments up there. It's got to be pretty tough without hearing. If it's not overly personal... how did you become deaf? I assume that because your parents were deaf that the condition is inherited, but you know what they say about assumptions...

My grandparents are hearing but my parents are deaf and I was born deaf, so im not 100% sure how deafness came into the family. I dont remember biology and learning about genetics well.

Hmm... It was probably a recessive gene then. Rotten luck for you though =(. If you see the kid that took your implant, crack him on the head for me.

Immortalkid- I agree with you 100%. I'm deaf too and play softball and am in the marching band. I'd be pissed too if I couldn't hear and I thank my parents for having me get cochlear implants from when I was two. I've made phenomonal progress and no one can even tell I'm deaf unless I tell them. I like the fact that I'm not having to go through life wondering what a person sounds like when they talk or what a piano sounds like. I admire those who choose to stay deaf and not have surgery because that's an equally hard challenge. If you don't know what its like to be deaf or don't take the time to ask someone about it, I'd stay the hell away from this conversation!

I agree with you 100% but I don't have the Cochlear Implant, I use Hearing Aids but I do have a friend that has it.. I have had these since I was a little kid and I'm so thankful that my parents for getting me them. I was told about the Surgery last year, I have been thinking about it since then, unless my insurance tells me other wise then I can't do it but I still have time until I stop growing though but I feel as though my life would completely change if I do, do it and I don't think I want that change. People don't understand what we go through, yeah we are still human beings but they act as though we are different and they act like we are retarded and I don't understand why?..I play soccer, and basketball and I've gotten scholarships and notices for soccer soo what makes us different then you guys? I just think being deaf is a whole new society and I feel as great as a person with normal hearing but my family are the only people that know me, I'm not sure you understand what I'm saying or what other people know what I'm saying but I understand myself. I would love to say a lot more but I'm to lazy too..

you guys sure love writing stories...

Joseph9 4

stories? As in making it up, or writing long paragraphs? Because it's not hard to do..unless for you..

#78-PrincessElle...you are an asshole for being such an ASSHOLE! Don't know why I said this? Think about what you said...Asshole.

What the HELL?! I would have frigging made the dude get the damn thing! I have an implant as well and if anyone ever took it I'd be all over their ass. FFS! Report that ******* idiot of a security officer UGH. No effing respect!

I love deaf people. lol My ex-boyfriend's whole family was, and they were amazing.

I'm not trying to be rude but how is your speaking? A friend of mine recently got cochlear implants but she had been deaf her entire life so it is taking her a while to learn how to vocalise properly. She still speaks with a bit of a deaf "accent" (for lack of a better word). My point is, it is possible the guard didn't understand you and didn't make much of an effort to try.

Lady_Zydrate 1

My voice is a bit off according to people so I guess I have a deaf 'accent'

Haha I have one too...it's so annoying sometimes. My voice is a monotune all the time, and I drop off the ends of words, have problems with 's', and 'tion' to 'shun.' Once, I asked for a Reese's, and the wroker thought I said Skittles. >.
