Today, after backpacking acrossing Europe for a month, I picked up my dog from the doghouse. No one will listen to me or acknowledge the fact that he's now missing two toes. FML

One, a trip in an airplane is uncomfortable for the dog at best, completely miserable and cruel at worst. The temperatures in the storage areas drop radically due to the height and if it's winter, it's even worse. They also don't have any sound isolation going on there, which is painful for dogs. Two, that almost cruel trip is extremely expensive. Three, it's quite hard to find hotels or hostels that take in dogs, especially when you go backpacking as you usually don't make reservations and would have to go through several places before finding one who would take your dog in too. Three, public transportation isn't all that easy with pets either.
