Today, after breaking down in front of my therapist over some really sensitive issues, she decided to also break down. Not about my story but about her own life. I'm not being paid to comfort and console my therapist. FML

Get a new therapist! Part of their training is to learn NOT to overshare and NOT to break down... it breaks down the therapist-client relationship.

Finally, someone with sense...there's a reason they have schooling, also a reason the patients have to pay them so much per hour. It may be sad for them, but if they are unable to control themselves, they really shouldn't be doing their jobs. There's a chance something like that could further traumatize their already traumatized patients. Plus it's just unprofessional as ****. I wish people understood that and didn't call OP insensitive.

I think Op is being unsensitive. It is okay to be uncomfortable but while the therapist was unprofessional, Op could have left and said that they were going to go to another therapist. They chose to stay and complained about it.

Not very professional. Maybe she got her license through a correspondence course or off a box of cereal? I'd change therapists or at the very least ask to see her credentials

she must've just started on the job.

I hate when the therapist starts talking about their issues. I always want to be like, "Tic tock, my insurance company pays YOU to listen to ME and the clock is ticking!"

I like your therapist. She seems human and not like some Robot. Although I wouldn't get romantically involved, you two can maybe become good friends. Best of luck with your treatment.

Wow! Must suck having to listen to everyone else's issue and not know how to deal with your own.

Must suck for the patients more. They're going to professional help in the hopes that their shrinks know what the **** they're doing. If it's too much for the therapist to handle, they are in the wrong line of work.
