Today, after having recently told my 4-year-old daughter that she won't grow big and tall if she doesn't eat her veggies, she decided to pass this wisdom on to a midget that we passed in the store. FML

She's 4, cut her some slack! All kids say things that embarrass their parents! When I was 4, I told some guy at the store that my dad would kick his ass for hitting on my mom! Lol.

I hope she didn't start with, 'Mummy said.....'

I don't think you can call people 'midgets'... You should probably cut that out before your daughter picks it up.

Why do we tell our kids that? If it were true, vegetarians would be taller and stronger than the carnivores among us, which I don't think is generally true. Why don't we just tell them that they'll be healthier overall?

because little kids dont understand health as a concept they need an actual measurable goal. thats why we were told that eating crusts makes your hair curly, carrots make you see in the dark and veggies make you taller.

Actually, you're missing the point of how parents use that phrase. It gets trotted out when kids are scarfing down an unbalanced meal, going right for the mac&cheese or the sweets and entirely ignoring the veggies. A diet that lacks vital nutrients, be it strictly herbivorous, strictly carnivorous, or omnivorous, will not produce a strong and healthy body.

you know that an omnivorous diet is what we have currently and it means a diet consisting of everything (prefix omni) therefore an omnivorous diet done correctly is healthy. if your comment was pointing at me then i know why parents use it but i was stating why it works on kids.

I have a friend who is a little person. He would've have thought that was hilarious (in fact I'll send him a link to this)

I don't think you should call them midgets though.
