Today, after recently discovering that I need a bone marrow transplant, my girlfriend got tested to see if she could be a donor. When the results came back with a negative match, she blurted out, "Oh thank god." FML

She still got tested. I think she would have gone through with it if she was indeed a match, but anyone (including myself) would be dreading the surgery.

It was a nice gesture that she tested to see if she could, but that wasn't really a proper response, even if she was afraid to go through with the procedure. Good luck finding a doner OP!

I think I'm closer with my best friend who is a girl than you are with your girlfriend. Sorry OP

Look at it this way, as much as she feared the pain, she would've done it if she was a match. Her slip of the tongue, though crass, doesn't change her intentions.

Hey, don't get too mad at her. They hurt like hell. I'm sure she wants to actually help, but she might be afraid of the pain. Like I would be.

Give her some slack. She obviously really wanted to help you, but it's an extremely painful process. Thank goodness for her. Hopefully you learn how to be a better boyfriend.

I am guessing she was willing to do it if she was a match but the surgery is extremly painful and she was probably filled with the fear of that.

Yea... Are you kidding me that surgery is painful after. And she may have a fear of needles.

Don't be too hard on her, it was nice that she even got tested but she must have been terrified because she would have probably have gone through with giving you bone marrow. Hence her exclamation.

I would be thankful too, bone marrow transplants are extremely painful. I don't think it's a lack of caring, she did get tested.
