Today, after telling my parents just exactly what I thought of them and that I was moving out, the person I was supposed to move in with called to say they'd decided they would rather live alone. FML

Today, after months of telling my parents I was going to live on my own, I finally moved out. Not even 24 hours being out of their house, some reject burned down the apartment complex I live in. Guess who's moving back home. FML

Today, I found out the person that I’ve been casually seeing has decided he wants to live with me. I found this out when I asked him to go home after two weeks sleeping over, and he told me he'd already moved out of his mom’s. I sublet a single bedroom and have barely enough room for myself. FML

Today, it's been a few weeks since I moved into my own place, so I decided to visit my parents. I rang to ask for a good time to come over but all I got was basically, "Nope, you’re moved out now, a grown up, no longer our problem, ring us when you get some girl pregnant with our first grandbaby, bye." Today, my mother told me she thinks it is time for me to move into my own place. I agreed with her and went to look at studios/flats online. She later came into my room, saw me looking at places and then got pissed off at me, saying that I hate her for wanting to leave her. FML

Today, I moved out of my parents' house and started living alone. All of a sudden, my parents started requiring me to text or call them every 5 minutes to tell them where I am and what I'm doing, from 6am to 12am every day. If I don't, they will go looking for me, and force me to move back in with them. FML

I'm with #27 - raising your child to adulthood is your legal responsibility. It doesn't give you the right to rape them, hit them, or mentally abuse them. I don't know that any of that was going on with the OP. If she's just being a brat, well she deserves it. But if they abused her, her life sucks. Being in an environment like that isn't something anyone should have to deal with. I also agree, however, that she should have waited until she was already set in a new place.

There was absolutely no good thing that could come out of you completely burning your bridges in this case. If they're as awful as you say they are then you should be able to move out on your own anyway. Head to a YWCA and start answering ads now. But if you're planning on staying with them now that your plans have fallen through - then you need to make things right. I hope you've learned something from this mess.

Your parents must be jumping from joy (deep down inside if they pretended that they care about you) from two consecutive wins. The first one being that they no longer have to take care of you. The second win being that they can torture their selfish and disrespectful daughter until she moves out.
