Today, as a support worker, I spent 45 minutes making various attempts to calm a violent autistic kid. Just as soon as I was sure the crisis was over, he beat me as hard as he could with the "Things I Can Do When I'm Mad" book I'd given him. FML

How unfortunate. That, and a tad bit ironic. Perhaps he gave the book a good use after all.

Shoulda given him the book "how to make sweet passionate love to a woman".

I think you mean War and Peace, smarty pants.

Either get a different job, or stop bitching. You knew what people with mental disabilities could do, don't whine because it happened. Be glad because you made an impression.

As an individual who works with autistic kids, I know how you feel about the irony of this situation

Working with autistic kids you should know how they react and expect them to get mad and try and do things like that...as for 153 that is a very rude and offensive comment. It is not that child's fault fault that he/she is like that.

Its not an illness its alteration in the brain that affects communication skills and learning as well as other changes, and you'd be pissed off to if your whole life couldn't communicate any of your wants or needs in a way the rest of the world could understand. Autism is a wide spectrum disorder with a huge range of differences but every single individual that I've worked with just want to be treated like the rest of the community. FYL to anyone that ostracized an autistic individual.....
