Today, as part of the treatment for my bulimia, my doctor informed me that I will not be allowed to go to the bathroom unsupervised. Meaning there will have to be another person in the bathroom with me at all times. I have a nervous bladder. I couldn't go if I wanted to. FML

Awww! ): I'm so sorry. Maybe suggest a new treatment, since that won't work for you and benefit toward your health. The point is to get help with your eating disorder, not torment you.

anyone who said she deserves it or is stupid clearly doesn't realize that bulimia is a mental disorder. to those people, fyl for being ignorant.

maybe this will help you get over your shy bladder. two birds one stone kinda thing

I'm guessing that you're going to cure both your bulemia and nervous bladder in one go. Also congrats on getting treatment I hope you get well.

Hey, I'm the OP of this post. I wrote it before I had an account, so you'll just have to trust me on that. Thank you for your lovely comment. I'm much better now, but still struggling. I was actually at an outpatient hospital at the point I wrote this. (It sucked.) But thanks to everyone who left nice comments, it made me feel a lot better about the whole situation. =)

Well, you got to go in your bed from now on.

Have the person stand outside the bathroom while you continuously hum a tune (there can't be any pauses) or sing a song. You can't hum and puke at the same time, and it will drown out some of the intimate sound effects occurring in the toilet...

What the used to do at the hospital's psych ward was let you go to the bathroom, but not shut the door completely, just a crack. They had someone stand outside and check the toilet before you flushed. Maybe suggesting that would help? Someone watching you piss is an invasion of privacy.

Pray that it's Dane Cook or Carlos Mencia in there with you. Anytime I see their shows I usually have the urge to vomit and take a shit at the same time. Hopefully you get one way or the other..

I read a pamphlet about a teenage girl who died from bulimia. Oh, sorry. Being optimistic.

Then you shouldn't have been bulimic. Forgive me for being insensitive but I'm sure that you're beautiful outside and in, and you don't need to throw up those insides for everyone to see that you are.

Its a mental debilitating condition. "you shouldn't have been" is the stupidest comment i have ever seen on the internet. Why not just tell a drug addict "just stop doing drugs" or a manic depressive to "just be happy". You think these people do it because they choose to? You have absolutely no idea what your talking about or how idiotic that statement is. I hope you never have to go through anything like that, because you would know very quickly how insane and misinformed you are.

drug addict was a bad example because they chose that lifestyle of their own free will to start with, knowing full well the consequences. No sympathy there

I would say that drug addiction is a good example because bulimia can start similarly as well. The pressure to be thin that can cause someone to begin forcing him/herself to vomit may result from a number of sources. The instigator may be another psychological issue, the media, or possibly even pressure from someone they know and admire actually telling them that they should do it. Similarly, drug addicts begins taking drugs either due to another mental disorder, such as depression or anxiety or many other psychological issues, or due to pressure from an outside source. The addiction then grows as a result of that initial weakness, just as the bulimia did.

I had anorexia for over a year-- I didn't chose to be, and I never even thought I was fat. In fact, I was much happier with my body pre-eating disorder because I was strong and healthy. I got sick and couldn't eat, and then the situation was perpetuated by clinical depression, also caused by being sick. Don't judge people's circumstances when you don't understand what they're going through. OP, I don't know your story, but I hope you get the treatment you need.

Umm "you don't need to throw up those insides for everyone to see that you are" Umm You obviously think this is for attention or for beauty or something. It's a mental disorder. OP can't help it. Eating disorders are RARELY about appearance, although it is a part of it (thinner=success) but more often people eat and throw it up because they feel like they have a black hole in their heart and they need to fill it with something, like food. Then the feeling of fullness/ desire to lose weight/ feeling greedy/ feeling guilty/ feeling sad/ feeling anything at all... They throw it up. They throw up to rid themselves of all their bad feelings. It's just like cutting. So um, yea. Before you post something that you yourself say that you KNOW is insensitive, just stop yourself and don't.
