Today, at work, I was helping someone who really sounded like she had a Boston accent. So, I asked her where she was from. She has never been out of state. Turns out she has a speech impediment. FML

I worked in customer service over the phone and had a lady ask what country I was in. I told her I was from Washington state and she didn't believe me. It happens. And I don't even have a speech impediment

don't feel embarrass. I have a speech impediment due to hearing loss and people have always asked me where I'm from. Doesn't bother me one bit

I have a speech impediment and people ask me all the time. I think it's funny because I ask them where they think and I get a different answer Everytime. never left Canada

If I had a speech impediment, I think I'd feel pretty cool for someone to think I'm from somewhere else. I'd probably just continue playing it as an accent. Don't feel too bad!

Something similar happened to me in 6th grade. There was this girl (who is now my ex-best friend) who sounded like she was from New York, she actually had a speech impediment too.

What is an accent but a locally popular speech impediment with no physical cause?

Ok so why is that so bad it's not like you said anything you just asked her where she was from

Don't feel to bad, I have speech impairment and people ask me if I'm from England or Australia a lot, I don't really care as long as they don't tell me my voice is weird

My stepmother did that once with a waitress. She'd apparently heard it before-she was pretty flippant about it and just said "no, I'm from here, but everybody thinks u have an accent!" My stepmom felt awful though.

People ask me that all the time. I can't pronounce my r's correctly asking with a few other speech issues so sometimes it sounds like I'm from Boston, Britain, or Australia. I just tell people I talk funny and that I'm from Michigan. It cracks me up when people say "oh, I can hear the Michigan accent."

I have a speech impediment and have a accent it really doesn't bother me when people ask but it really fun when they straight off try guess the accent never bother me or another people who have same thing as me
