Today, during dinner, my mum asked why I've been so upset recently, so I just admitted it was because my girlfriend had cheated on me. At some point during my venting, I asked why this stuff always seems to happen to me. My dad looked up from his plate and said, "Probably karma." FML

Your dad could have been more supportive, but there's a reason he could have said that OP. No one would say that without a reason. On a side note: There's a lot of fish in the sea. Not all girls cheat, just bad luck on your case.

It seems this is an argument with reasons vs valid reasons. A reason to beat your child is because you felt like it, but I dare to say most wouldn't consider it a "reason" because it doesn't abide by any logical motives. So don't be harsh, it's the Internet!

If it's a senseless, stupid reason, it's hardly worth bringing up as a reason that should be considered unless one really has a need to. If it comes down to, "Because he's a jerk," there's nothing to be gained in sagely peering over your spectacles and remarking that he "must have a reason."
