Today, I asked my boss for a raise, explaining that another shop offered me a job at a higher rate, but I would stay if he would offer me the same. Instead, he fired me then called the other shop and said I was fired for failing a drug test. FML

Your boss is an asshole! There has to be someone you can contact because he is out of line.

File a lawsuit for slander and defamation of character. also would obviously explain the situation to the people at the other job and offer to take a drug test. I've had a similar hostile work environments. my now current employers were very understanding when I told them I quit outright 2 weeks after I got a raise.

That wasnt proffesional of him but you shouldnt have told him the name of the shop

If he is telling a lie, not only can he be removed from his managerial position, but if the other work place chose not to hire you from what he has said, you could file unemployment and sue him for a year salary of what you would've made working there. 94.2% of managers that are sued from this loose and have to pay you.

That is illegal. They can fire you if they want to, but they are not legally allowed to say anything about you that would prevent you from finding another job, unless it's true. If you aren't someone who uses drugs, then you have a strong case to sue your former employer.

It's not legal to tell someone why an employee was fired. They're only allowed to ask if you're eligible for rehire.

Apply for unemployment to make him pay you anyways then sue him for lieing to your other job causing you to get fired. He will lose because he doesn't have a drug test from you to submit as evidence
